Meet Alexa.

Hailed for her “colorful, flexible and expressive playing” (Res Musica), pianist Alexa Stier has performed extensively across Europe, the United States and South America. Alexa is a top prizewinner of the Olivier Messiaen International Piano Competition and the Virtuoso e Belcanto Concerto Competition, and a laureate of the Orléans International Piano Competition and the George Enescu International Piano Competition.

Alexa’s most notable appearances include solo recitals and chamber music collaborations at Lincoln Center (New York City), Merkin Hall (New York City), the Liszt Cultural Institute (New York City), Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concerts (Chicago), Glasgow Royal Concert Hall (U.K.), Palazzo Pfanner (Lucca, Italy), and at the Zaldumbide Rosales Foundation (Quito, Ecuador). She has performed in music festivals such as Time:Spans Festival (New York City), Norfolk Chamber Music Festival (USA), Edinburgh Fringe Festival (U.K), Virtuoso e Belcanto Festival (Italy), and International Holland Music Series (The Netherlands). She appeared as a soloist with orchestras such as the Royal Scottish National Orchestra (UK), the New Britain Symphony Orchestra (USA), and the Transylvania State Orchestra (Romania).

As a Hungarian pianist hailing from Romania, Alexa regularly represents her cultural heritage at embassies around the world. Having premiered over twenty new works, Alexa is a dedicated performer of contemporary music. 

Uniting her passion towards chamber music, contemporary music, and education, Alexa founded the ContemporArt Chamber Music Festival and non-profit organization. As artistic director, Alexa facilitates yearly week-long series of free chamber music concerts and music education to her hometown community and local music students.

Alexa holds diplomas from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and the Yale School of Music, where she is currently a doctoral candidate studying with Boris Berman and Wei-Yi Yang. During her studies at Yale School of Music, she received the “Elizabeth Parisot Prize” awarded to “outstanding pianists in the Yale School of Music”, the “Alumni Prize”, and the “Friedmann Thesis Prize”.  Alexa actively contributes to the field of musical scholarship. She has presented at the National Conference for Keyboard Pedagogy, The New Jersey Music Teachers’ Association, and the Conference of the American Hungarian Educators’ Association, where she was awarded the Best Student Paper Award for her presentation on György Kurtág’s piano miniatures. 

Alexa is a dedicated educator both in classroom and studio settings, promoting a holistic and dynamic approach to piano pedagogy. She completed the Post-Graduate Pedagogy Fellowship of the Frances Clark Center, and served as a Teaching Assistant during her time at the Yale School of Music. Currently, she serves as adjunct collaborative pianist at  Lipscomb University, and she teaches piano at Lipscomb Academy in Nashville, Tennessee.
